NEW – Roll-out of Clean Fleet Management Toolkit
As Asian economies grow, the contribution of vehicle fleets to air pollution and GHG emissions increases. Companies are also concerned about the financial impact of rising fuel consumption and costs.
In 2008, PCFV and CAI-Asia launched the UNEP Clean Fleet Management Toolkit at the Better Air Quality conference held in Bangkok, Thailand. Since then, CAI-Asia was able to carry out training of the Toolkit in Chile (September 2009), Slovenia (November 2009); Dubai (September 2010) and St. Lucia (March 2011). CAI-Asia piloted the Toolkit in the Philippines at the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

NEW – Green Trucks Pilot Project in Guangzhou
To support Guangzhou’s efforts to improve air quality in preparation for the 2010 Asian Games, the World Bank and CAI-Asia Center implemented a pilot project aimed at improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions and air pollution from trucks in Guangzhou. The pilot project was the basis for
- a World Bank GEF project on freight and logistics for Guangdong Province
- the establishment of a Green Freight Program for China
- the formation of a Green Freight Network

NEW – Early Results from DERA
Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Partnership – see http://pprc.org/dera/.
The Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center, Interstate Distributor Co., and Freight Wing Inc., are working together with funding from an EPA grant to reduce diesel emissions for the over 2,000 trucks in Interstate’s fleet by using Freight Wing’s aerodynamic truck “skirts. As of March 31, 2011 this DERA project has:
- Outfitted 754 trucks with Aeroflex fairings
- Saved 1,706,547 gallons of diesel fuel
- Prevented 1,332 tons of GHG emissions from reaching atmosphere
