Spatial and Seasonal Variability of Dissolved Methylmercury in Two Stream Basins in the Eastern United States
Abstract: Scientists assessed MeHg at large basin, headwater basin, and stream reach scales in two basins (Edisto River, South Carolina; Upper Hudson River, New York) with elevated fish Hg burdens. Spatial/seasonal patterns in surface water dissolved MeHg concentrations and mass fluxes were assessed along with sediment MeHg concentrations and production potentials in the headwater basins to identify MeHg sources and important controls on stream MeHg concentrations throughout the Edisto and Upper Hudson Rivers.
