An Environmental Management System Review of the National Park Service
Abstract: This analysis of environmental management systems (EMS) within the National Park Service (NPS), includes an analysis of support relationships between NPS field-level facilities and NPS and DOI Headquarters environmental offices. A set of recommendations was developed for improvement in each of the following performance objectives: management commitment; compliance assurance and pollution prevention; enabling systems; performance and accountability; and measurement.

Buildings/ Facilities Energy Management and Water Conservation Plan
Abstract: Presents the DOI's plan for conserving energy and water in buildings and facilities. The Plan provides a sound basis for the accomplishment of the mandated buildings and facilities goals articulated in Executive Orders relating to energy and water conservation. They include a 20% reduction by FY 2000 and a 30% more efficient use of energy in Federal buildings and facilities by FY 2005 (as compared to energy used in FY 1985), minimization of petroleum use, and procurement of energy efficient goods.

Chemical Product Clean-Out Protocol [PDF]
Abstract: This protocol outlines how to conduct a chemical product clean-out in a safe and efficient way. It was created by the Region 8 EPA/NPS Partnership as a tool for parks to safely remove and dispose of chemicals that will no longer be used after switching to a green purchasing program.
