Best Management Practices
This section includes Best Management Practices for swine operations that help to reduce the amount of soil, nutrients, pesticides and microbial contaminants released to the environment.
As animal operations become more concentrated, there are serious concerns for the potential of increased environmental impacts to surface water, groundwater, air and soil. These agriculture pollutants and their environmental impacts are briefly described in this section.
Building an EMS
An Environmental Management System helps producers develop strategies for integrating environmental considerations into production decisions and long-term planning. EMS examples for agriculture and pork operations are provided.
This guidance provides an overview of several options to consider in whole or partially to improve animal waste management for pork producers.
